The park is smaller than the format needs

Komodo National Park covers roughly 1,733 square kilometres, of which about 603 is land — Komodo, Padar and Rinca plus twenty-six smaller islands. The long repositioning sail. A Lombok-to-Komodo 4D3N sailing adventure at $708 does genuinely sleep three nights at sea. But it is a passage rather than a park circuit: you are crossing from Lombok through the Sunda islands and arriving in Komodo, so a meaningful share of the four days is transit rather than snorkel stops. If a sailing passage is what you want, it is excellent. If you want four days in the park, it is not that.

The extended private charter. Several private charters will build a longer itinerary on request. Check the basis before you budget: some are quoted per person, others for the whole vessel in tiers of two, four or ten — and only the second kind gets cheaper as your group grows.

What a fourth day actually buys

Assume you take the hybrid, which is what most people booking four days end up on.

Land time in Labuan Bajo. Batu Cermin Cave and the swimmable saltwater pool at Rangko Cave are genuinely worth a morning and no boat trip includes them. A hotel bed either side of the sea night — for travellers who are nervous about sleeping at sea, this is a real advantage over a straight liveaboard. And pace: a slower run through the same stops with less compression.

What it does not buy is more of the park. The islands are the same ones.

The honest alternative

For most travellers wanting four days in Flores, the better structure is: book the 3D2N liveaboard and add a Labuan Bajo day separately.

Check how many nights are actually at sea. This is the whole question, and the listing title will not answer it. Read the day-by-day itinerary.

Check which meals are included. On the hybrid, only the meals during the boat journey are — meals ashore are excluded.
